    Aphorisms

As you can imagine, I would like to gather here our favourite aphorisms in English.
    Who starts?
E vedere che sulle tue labbra anche il vino si aggrappa lasciando
Per dono il colore dei re
La porpora di un manto che
Non per dispetto e non senza rispetto
    Ebbene lo ammetto
    Ti porterei via

Tu mia casa, mia anima, mia carne, mia luce

    Ok, I do.

America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.
E vedere che sulle tue labbra anche il vino si aggrappa lasciando
Per dono il colore dei re
La porpora di un manto che
Non per dispetto e non senza rispetto
    Ebbene lo ammetto

History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.

Ok, let's go on with Oscar Wilde, then!

This is one of his most famous sentences...

A cigarette is the perfect type of a perfect pleasure. It is exquisite, and it leaves one unsatisfied. What more can one want?

And then I found this one:

Being natural is simply a pose.

I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world
              I'm laying down, eating snow
My fur is hot, my tongue is cold
On a bed of spider web
I think of how to change myself

A lot of hope in a one man tent
              There's no room for innocence
So take me home before the storm

                      Why not?

"Why not" is the name of a famous gay club in Vienna... I can't say it's an aphorism... but anyway, how did you know it, Mat?

                      Ok, let's be serious:

Life is a tale told by an idiot - full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

                          - Charles R. Swindoll

The only existing and always valid law is the survival of the fittest.
It could be masked by a tonload of decorative laws, but it's clearly the spinebone.
I hope this helps to emphasize,
I hope this helps to clarify,
